Boden triangle challenge

I received some flowers for Easter a couple of days ago and thought they would look nice next to the piano, but I didn’t have a mat to put the vase on and I didn’t want to take a chance of getting water on the piano.  In the meantime, Pat Sloan posted a Boden quilt challenge . I could take care of both at the same time!

I made an excuse about needing binding for the quilt that I’m working on (which is true, but it will be a while before I’m ready to bind it) so I could go get some fabric, and the Bread N Butter Mini Charm pack just spoke to me – so bright and cheery!

2016-03-25 13.18.38I made the half square triangles in short order and tried a couple of different combinations.  I decided I wanted the yellows in the outer corners and inside the block, so I lined the greens around until I liked the way it looked.

From there, it was pretty easy going – pairing up squares 2 by 2,then row by row.  It needed a border to make sure I got the triangle points as accurate as possible. I used some scrap fabric I had for the back that was plain yellow.

I did micro quilting with my Sweet 16 on all the cream triangles – pebbles in 4 of them, figure 8’s in others, then close matchsticks in others to flatten the cream triangles overall to make the green and yellow triangles pop.

It doesn’t take long at all to put binding on a mini quilt!  Here’s the finished product – it’s nice to make something that I’ll actually use on a regular basis that didn’t take a long time to make.

And while I’m on picture overload, here’s one from the back.  Not perfect but I thought it was cute from this side also!

Springtime love!!!!! The colors are so perfect for those flowers and the contrast of the dark (piano) wood! Always like doing pebbles….fun!

    1. Thank you! There are a number of different colors in that particular mini charm pack, but I liked the yellow/green combo the best.
