Wow! Was that ever a lot of embroidery for someone who hadn’t done any embroidery in probably 35-40 years before I started the Splendid Sampler. I found some iridescent skeins (otherwise known as fancy pants floss) yesterday when I bought more floss so I picked up the 3 colors that would be used in the flowers.
Once I started on one, there was no going back. I did think several times that I could just outline parts of it; even some of the designers did that so if it’s good enough for them, it would be good enough for me. But then I would think, what are a few days out of the course of 20 years (that’s my go-to phrase to put things in perspective – will this matter in 20 years?).
Yes, this block took much longer than any previous block. It took me the better part of 2 days and by that I mean I worked on it probably 4 hours each day. But there are others that took an hour two, so it all evens out. I decided to mentally torture myself and take a picture of it in perspective of 20 blocks and no, it’s not the “wow” block up there – I personally think the paper pieced one is the one that catches my attention the most. But this block does have a story of its own, every bit as much as the others.
I’m running out of room on my design wall with these projects!
Very nice, I used to do hand embroidery many years ago also. Still do my needlepoint when I have time. Yes, guess it’s best to start on small things first!! Like your blocks, they blend together well.
Well done with the embroidery. I guess a small block is the way to bring you back into it without pain.
