$3.13 Friday

One of the blogs I follow is The Red Boot Quilt Company and I noticed today she has what she called $4 Friday – except she’s in Brisbane, Australia which really means $3.13 Friday to the Americans today!

She sells patterns on Etsy that are really cute if you’re looking for something to work on.

I started to name this post “when it rains, it pours” but we’ve had a lot of rain lately and I didn’t need any reminders…

My bobbin for my Sweet Sixteen won’t pop out of the case.  Suddenly last night as I was working on the stained glass quilt I ran out of thread and like I usually do, I reached underneath to pop the bobbin out.  I’ve unscrewed the front guard, the needle plate, cleaned out any dust bunnies, searched for threads, made sure my needle was up, googled it, searched on YouTube, posted on forums.  Nothing.  I’m going to call Handi Quilter’s offices in Utah in a bit but I suspect I’ll be making a trip to get it fixed today to replace the casing.  The casing turns freely so there’s nothing obvious about why it’s stuck.

The one on the left is from Handi Quilter’s user manual, and the one on the right is mine.

2016-04-28 19.13.38I had literally just finished sewing the last circle on the white sashing and ran out of thread at the same time so I was about to start the fun part of the quilt.  This too shall pass, right?

Here’s a preview of the quilt now that the “need to have” stitching is done.  And when I get the machine up and running again, then I might just get this quilt finished in the same year I started it!

  1. What a beautiful, colourful quilt. I’m still hovering on the edge of trying quilting – your quilt is quite an incentive.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

    1. Thank you! I’m looking forward to getting my machine back so I can finish quilting it. And then actually put it on a bed!

Your quilt is so beautiful! I love how colorful it is!

    1. Thank you so much! I had these batiks that I had bought on sale, just waiting for the project that fit them and I think this one works out well.

  3. The quilt looks awesome! Hopefully you and the machine will be back to quilting soon. 🙂

    1. Thank you! It looks like my Sweet Sixteen will be in the shop about a week and a half or so. That means switching gears to more sewing and less quilting for a few days.

  4. Is one of the bobbin cases in upside down?

    1. It was the strangest thing, and part of the story that we never figured out. The case was floating in there freely, spinning 360 instead of stopping on each side. And then the bobbin was stuck inside of there, unable to move. The local dealer got it fixed yesterday – now it just needs the timing fixed. I’m so glad it turned out to not be a big deal!

      1. Lucky you!

  5. Lovely quilt!

    1. Thank you!
