Block #25 – Sunday Best

25% of the way through the Splendid Sampler.  This has been such a reminder of just how quickly life passes by. The first block was released Sunday, February 14th. Does that seem so long ago? Do you remember anything particular about that day other than it was Valentine’s day? Just 3 short months later and even though I write in a journal regularly, I couldn’t recall what I did that day if I tried.

I figured out pretty quickly that I needed to piece together the teeniest, tiniest pieces ever onto Nekkid Bunny’s body before I put any clothes on him.  You ask how I know Bunny is a boy?  I just told you – hehe! (very bad, sophomoric humor!).  I laid the heat ‘n bond on top of the template that was printed in reverse and then traced it.  Not too hard.  I placed the bunny pieces on top of the grassy knoll and ironed it.  5 minutes later I had him fully clothed and the flower ironed on.

I’m here to tell you that heat ‘n bond needs something bigger than 3mm to bond to.  I think I ended up having to glue baste half of it again.  It’s probably obvious that I haven’t stitched it down. I was hoping to have good news about my sewing machine and was waiting for it but no such luck.

2016-05-09 20.00.28I called today for an update regarding my machine and he said it was completely torn apart as he tried to figure out how to fix it.  But he had no idea.  In fact, the error message was gone but now the display is completely empty and yet – it will not stitch.  I went by and picked it up, then took it entirely apart myself – still nothing.  I need to get it over to the local dealer but my schedule through the rest of the week is hectic so it could be as late as next Monday.

I’m so glad I got hooked on these patchwork of the crosses blocks!  Who needs technology when they have English paper piecing?  I need to fix that bottom  middle one on the right where the stripe doesn’t match up but otherwise, I’m busy sewing this one down.

The funny part is I was trying to get the square look like this one on Pinterest – https://www.pinterest.com/pin/464574517792855206/ae2bf6ed0f404df658d871aa07381160

I didn’t quite get that right – haha!  I had a picture of it in my head.  But I still liked the pattern that the white stripe made around the middle on mine.

Ohhhhh…..I’m so sorry to ‘hear’ of your machine woes!!!!! Hand piecing is a great distraction….er, substitute, but being w/o a machine would be very difficult!!!!!! Mr Bunny looks quite dapper. I do remember last V’s Day…….down in TX…..glorious day!

    1. That’s great that you remember that day! Isn’t that funny how some days stick in our head for weeks, years or even decades – and then others…poof! And they’re gone!
