Block 31 – Blossoming

2016-05-31 06.54.17It took me part of Saturday evening, Sunday, Monday, and early Tuesday morning – but I hand stitched everything on the block designed by Jenny Reynolds!

I saw she had stitched 3 variations of it, which made me feel comfortable with switching up the skeins used to adapt it to the colors in my sampler.  I stayed with the original pattern though – so cute!

She has beautiful embroidery patterns on Craftsy; if you haven’t seen them, you can find them here. My favorite one of hers that I’m going to do sometime is the Lord’s Prayer.

Here’s block # 31 added to the bunch.  I’m sure I’ll end up moving these around again since the newest block is so close to another embroidered block and I like to space them out based on style as well as light vs. dark blocks.

I have the final block basted into place for the Bloom quilt so I’ll sew that down hopefully later today and then sew the sashing on.  I’ll probably be ready to quilt it in a couple of weeks or so, depending on finishing a few other things in the meantime.

  1. You are just the quilting goddess – look at you – paper piecing, hand stitching – nice!

    1. Haha! I decided early on in the Splendid Sampler that I was going to machine applique as needed and not by hand to have some balance in my life!

  2. It saying “hand made” in embroidery that you did, is priceless!!
    So precious as an heirloom!!

    1. Thank you! I think that block is my favorite so far!

      1. You’re welcome!

Your block 31 looks amazing! You are braver than me. I didn’t even print it. I’m not even pretending might try to make the block. Great job!!!!

    1. That made me laugh! I saw one on Facebook where a woman used Crayola crayons to color in, then covered with a cloth and melted the colors into the background fabric. That made me wonder what happens when hers is washed but I’m guessing she knows what she’s doing!

  4. I’m going to give the embroidery a go on this block…I’ve been avoiding it on the others :-/ Yours looks great!! I think I may incorporate a few pieces of fabric applique as well like she did in her alternate blocks.

    1. I really wanted to do this one as designed because I really like Jenny’s work. But…I might use permanent colored pens on the next one!

I LOVE that “Bloom” block………I think that it is most definitely my favorite so far!!! Your embroidery piece is such a sweet addition to this collection. When you have finished with all the blocks, taking a photo of your arrangement really lets you see the light/dark balance plus it’s a good way to remember the exact arrangement!!! This is going to be a fun one to quilt!!!!!

    1. Thanks! I’m looking forward to finishing this one up this summer! I have a fan set up by the Sweet Sixteen so I don’t overheat in the Texas summer!
