Hi everyone! I’m still here! I am officially 3 blocks behind on the Splendid Sampler but I finally can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I will be back at it tomorrow. Yay!
There’s not a lot to write about when I’m spending my free time quilting. I’ve come to realize it’s a lot more interesting to show something when I’m sewing the quilt top rather than the quilting itself for 2 reasons. One, I tend to repeat patterns so if you’ve seen it once, you’ve seen it a hundred times when it comes to my quilting. Second, it’s my weak point in the process, so my quilting isn’t as intricate or as interesting. It’s a process! 
That being said….I usually use cones for quilting. But I was working with a new color palette and I didn’t have any thread on hand that really said “use me”. Off I went to the LQS and as it turns out, the perfect color was on one of those smaller spools of thread. I admit, I protested a bit when the owner recommended it to me – “but that’s what I use for hand sewing, not machine quilting!”. I have Mettler thread in several different colors and so I decided to give it a try on my Sweet Sixteen. No thread breaks so I give it a thumbs up! However, those little spools go by so quickly. In fact, one of them didn’t completely fill 2 bobbins. Before I knew it, I looked up and all I saw was a red cone where I had just started with a new spool what seemed like minutes ago. I replaced it and before too long, I looked up and – nothing! There was nothing on the spool pin at all! I must’ve really been hitting the accelerator that time because I found the empty spool on the floor. I think it literally flew off!
So with that, it is now 8pm in Texas and if you look closely you might even see a bunny, or two, in the sky. I will be back on my sewing machine again tomorrow so expect an update on the Splendid Sampler. My plan is to start where I left off and if I don’t get all 3 sewn tomorrow then on Sunday I’ll start with the newly announced block and work my way backwards.
Oh, and it’s hotter ‘n Hades in Texas – I hope it’s cooler wherever you are when you read this!
Oh, and as a side note, sadly, APQS did not call me to say I was the winner of their $25k longarm. It’s good to be an adult and still dream of “what if!” even if someone else is the ultimate lucky recipient.
If Texas is hotter n than Hades, then we must qualify as twins. We’re baking here in FL!

Haha! I am on a “no cooking” strike – we’ve been having salad and watermelon every night for dinner!

We used to live in Texas (Houston for 9 years) and I can appreciate what you mean by the heart. I actually had “heat shock” moving from NY to Texas (oh and of course “culture shock” too – ha!) 🙂
I have been dying to buy a bunch of the Connecting Threads – the prices are good, and the quality seems good as well. I don’t quilt on a long arm, just a regular machine, but I would have loved to win that long arm as well!!!!
My LQS has a long arm for sale – it belongs to the shop owner, and she has it on sale for $7400, but I can’t swing that, as much as I would like to. My housemate blew out her radiator when a rock hit it, and by the time she got pulled over (she drives up the mountain to Black Hawk, she is a security supervisor up there, so it is always a danger) the heads were blown as well. Guess what we will be paying off for a while? At least we share all our expenses (she hauled my ass back and forth for my chemo treatments in Littleton for two years, and before that I helped her take care of her dad for ten years, so it all works out in the wash) so at least she, or me!, aren’t handling the load all on our own.
I LOVE the bunnies!!! hat is amazing… it looks like papa bunny is kissing momma bunny while she cudddles the little bunnies on each side of her! Cute!
It has been raining here (Woo hoo! No having to water the garden!) and it is cool as well … you should come visit!

Those small spools, once you’ve used the cones, go “poof” once they’re placed on that pin!!!!! Very frustrating! I rarely (extremely rarely!!!) will put the same thread on the bobbin. I have a selection of Connecting Threads Essential Pro poly (70 wt) that seems to always have a color close enough to be used…..saving my top thread spools/cones. IMHO! Cooler here….getting warmer by Monday but still a far cry from your temps…….ugh!!!!!
I almost never worry about the same thread in the bottom either. I am going to go look into that collection – sounds like it’s right up my alley! It’s a cool 98 degrees. Time to go jump in the pool!
