Block #38 – Vintage Flower Basket

2016-07-12 11.55.54I just knew that gold rick rack was going to come in handy some day!  That’s left over from a Halloween costume from years ago and I had enough left at the time that I couldn’t just throw it away. And it doesn’t look nearly as shiny after all these years, which is a good thing – haha!

The precinct in our county has a “senior adult” program where you can reserve a bus that holds something like 30-40 people in it and go for a road trip, pretty much anywhere a bus can get to and from in a day.  I’d just like to state that I’m barely legal to be on that bus based on my age! At any rate, about once a month, a friend of a friend reserves it and the bus takes whoever signs up to a couple of quilt shops in one direction or the other from our meeting place.

The organizer takes up a $2 kitty from everyone and then on the next trip, she draws 2-3 names and those people get a prize of some sort.  I won the last time we went on a trip – yay me!  I won a couple of fat quarters of very pale yellow/cream colored fabric and wow was I ever excited because I knew it would go perfectly with my Splendid Sampler.  I’ve actually used the fabric on the last 3 blocks but kept forgetting to mention it.

Speaking of forgetting, I kept putting off block 38.  I don’t even remember now what I was working on that got me behind but I seemed to catch up on every other block except this one.  But today I am finally back on track.  As I look at the photo of the now 43 blocks done so far, I can see that I need more medium blue in it and maybe some lighter green if I could find something that worked well with the other fabrics I already have.

ftquiltOur group quilt is quilted – she was really fast getting this done! She stippled around the words in each block, using a larger pattern.  The quilt is 72 x 84″ so that’s a lot of quilting in just 2 days time!

I was so excited yesterday when I received a text from our 3rd friend yesterday – “hey, I can sew the binding on if you need me to”.  This was the best possible text I could have received!  I kept having a sense of regret that this had all come up when I knew she was out of town and yet she understood the circumstances completely.  But now the quilt includes all 3 of us which is honestly exactly the way I had hoped this would turn out.

IMG_20160711_215449624And in other news, I knocked out another connector for the Lucy Boston quilt last night but it looks just like the others so no need to post a photo of that.  I should be able to continue quilting on the college quilt again tomorrow so it won’t be too long before I’m able to show a finished quilt which is good since I think we’re down to a month before she heads out the door.

Love your basket! And I agree on adding more blue and green, those really pop on your blocks so far. Oh yeh, and I’m b-a-r-e-l-y legal for the bus too. 😏😉

    1. Haha! That’s right – we’re the young’uns on that bus!
