Ricky Tims binding using piping technique now I have found that the Magic binding method looks almost the same but is way easier.
I always dread hand binding. Because when the quilt is nearly finished you just want it done. I have machine quilted but never happy. However when I eventually start hand binding I’m reminded of how relaxing and therapeutic it is. Also it gives me time to think about the person I’m giving the quilt to and hopefully how much they will love it. Hand binding all the way
Ha ha! I should be done with the hand binding in a couple of days and then I’ll post the big reveal! It’s a simple quilt – the colors at what make it and not the pattern per se. I tend to not allot enough time for the binding portion. By then, I just want to be done!
I like hand binding as well. I just don’t like the look of machine binding (at least when I do it). I’ve played with stitch length, etc. and can’t get it right. One of my favorite quilt shops always has samples of machine bound quilts, they use decorative stitches, etc. BUT I remain true to hand binding.
It is beautiful! I used to hand bind smaller quilts too but I have been working on bigger projects lately and out of laziness doing machine binding which isn’t extremely fast either and I am never satisfied with the result. I think i’m just going to give up and take my sweet time hand binding.
I quilted several large quilts last winter – 3 that were larger than 100×100 – and due to time constraints I machine sewed them. At least I have time to finish this one by hand.
Wow that’s huge, I think i’m temporarily traumatized from taking on a 90 x 108 quilt for now! I am yet to even attach the backing and I imagined I’ll still machine bind that one as well
I did see that Baby Lock has what’s called a bi-level binding foot. I don’t own their machine, but I’m wondering if it’s compatible with other machines. It sure looked like it could make machine binding look nice.
It looks nice! I only do hand binding. I tried machine, and it looked SO amateurish, I was disgusted with myself. Took a lot longer to pull out the side I completed (at least I didn’t do the whole thing!) than it would have if I had just hand stitched in the first place… What does the other side look like? No hiding your beautiful work! 😉

Hmmm I wonder too as I currently own Janome and Brother machines.
I need to go check that out before I forget. I wouldn’t be surprised if I can’t find that on Amazon in the review or questions section.

In my mind I daydream of machine binding and I have done it on table runners. But for a quilt, hand binding rules!
