Before I forget…I’m almost ready to start cutting out the next quilt and I’m trying something new. I have a paper copy of the pattern and I have the flexible plastic sheets to trace it on to. I’ve never used this technique before – tracing and cutting my own templates onto the flexible plastic. If you have any tips – what is the best marking pen (regular ink? Tulip pen? Frixion maybe?) and any suggestions on cutting it out – it has crisp angles (scissors? rotary cutter?) by all means feel free to jump in with suggestions.
Okay! Well in other news, I completed the quilting on 2 more blocks for the machine quilting block party and started on the last unfinished one. The circles on the orange-blue-green one are…well, a little sorry-looking! Ironically my first set were the best ones of all. I have been working on just eyeballing the quilt pattern without so much marking, just to see how well I could do. The rest of it passed muster at least. I used a variegated King Tut thread on this one. I didn’t quilt these in order and as it turns out I did the most difficult one so far first. That means I have the April block left which so far has been pretty easy. I have it about a quarter done but stopped to watch the Olympics for the night. Tomorrow hopefully I’ll finish block 51 for the Splendid Sampler and the last of the quilting which means I would be on track for block 52 on Thursday when it comes out. And then start cutting the next quilt by Friday. I’m looking forward to it!
The quilting is wonderful!
Thank you!
I think your quilting looks very good. I especially love the colors of the orange and green block. It looks like sherbet!
That brings back some great memories! My dad loved orange sherbet; I haven’t had that in years but now I think I should make a trip to the grocery store!
I really appreciate you sharing your quilting, even when it is not perfect. It gives me hope! I am not artistic, and seeing these blocks up close and personal helps me see some of the possibilities. THanks!
Thanks! I am not very artistic either, although I was born into a family of them. My quilting progress isn’t a straight line progress I’ve found; it seems to go in spurts but I’m learning a lot about seeing how someone else thinks about quilting.
It’s beautiful
Your blocks look great! Good job on the quilting!
Thank you! I finished the last one today – woo hoo!
