It’s not that I didn’t like the original fabric I had picked out.  Rather, the quilt pattern really has  two distinct patterns that weave in and out and it makes more of an impact with there being a distinct difference between the blue and the purple.

And when you see just one block like this I’m sure you may be thinking “that is not a move in the right direction”.  But just trust me on this one – if you like purple – you’ll see why I  needed to change this one out.  I was on the phone with my namesake over the weekend and I asked her what her favorite color was because I was thinking about making this quilt for her.  Her answer was unequivocal – purple!  Whew.  Blueish-purple wasn’t going to work.

One block by itself doesn’t tell the whole story though.  Here’s a link to the finished quilt.  For an adult quilt, I think the blueish-purple would be great. But this is for a little girl in grade school.  So I switched it based on what I thought the recipient would prefer.

So far I have 1 block completed and started a second one tonight.  Each one takes a couple of hours, give or take and the quilt needs 25 blocks.  In order to leave time for basting and quilting, I really need to have this done in 12-15 weeks or in other words at least 2 blocks a week.  That sounds doable but time will tell!
