I love it when I see that Pat Sloan has a block coming up in the Splendid Sampler. They are always visually appealing, several are patchwork or doable applique, don’t take days to complete and yet interesting. I wanted to go for a darker overall block; I do wish I had used a slightly lighter color for the one section though; small blocks need lots of contrast to stick out.
As an individual block, it has the contrast I was looking for, but when I looked at it with 59 other blocks, the tan fabric doesn’t pop as much as I thought it would.
I have the 6″ Qube for Accuquilt and it was perfect for this block since it includes a finished 1.5″ square and 1.5″ x 3″ finished rectangle. Sure, it wouldn’t take long to cut this out but I love it for the accuracy on these small blocks.
I haven’t lost any sleep over the fact that my pinned rows aren’t perfectly straight. There are 60 of them up there though! I still need to finish up the embroidery on # 61. And I’m continuing to sew on the purple star quilt; I’m nearly done with the 5 blocks on the third row.
I went to open house at our son’s school this week and one of his teachers had in her bio that sewing is an interest of hers. I knew I liked her for a reason!
Put a star in the center of that block and you have a Texas Lone Star. Lovely blocks all.
I didn’t think about it that way – you’re right of course! Thank you!
These blocks are looking great on your design wall. This is going to be a wonderful quilt 🙂
Thank you! It’s really starting to come together. I’m still thinking about what color to use in the sashing.
