I did officially get all 25 blocks completed and the border sewn on. Overall I did get better at piecing it as I went along although I confess that one of the iffiest blocks was block # 24.
For each row, I picked out the one that I thought looked the best and put it in the 3rd place and then put the next two best ones in the 2nd and 4th location. Then as I finished another row, I would decide if the 3rd block in that one looked better – or worse – than the previous row until I finally felt like the best block overall is dead center, and no matter which way it’s turned the next best blocks are the 8 that surround it. And the ones that are less than perfect? Well…they’re on the edges. Don’t look there!
I finished up the 2 Splendid Sampler blocks that were released this week. I’ll probably post Thursday’s block tomorrow. In the meantime, this is block # 63. I have a lot of burgundy, tan, dark green and navy in my blocks but as I’ve gone along I ran out of most of the medium blue fabrics that I had; admittedly I didn’t have as much of it to start with. I picked up 3 or 4 fat quarters of various blues that hopefully will blend in with the rest of the quilt. I didn’t notice it until I had ironed it on, but there’s a whole lotta paisley in this one little block!
It’s always fun to see what you’re working on.
Some days it’s a “carry on” from what I was working on the day before but one thing about the Splendid Sampler is there’s something new from me usually at least twice a week.
I’m always amazed at how you find time to do so much sewing. I love it too, but find it hard to squeeze in the time most days. That’s why retreats are so great. No interruptions.
Most days I find it relaxing to sew after I’m done with work. This past week I had to take a child to the doctor one afternoon, etc. – all sorts of things cut into my “me” time. Hopefully I’ll catch up on lost time this week.
I like the white borders, it makes your blocks stand out even more! Your little cupcake is so cute!
Nancy McNally did such a great job with designing this quilt from start to finish. The outside white borders visually “finish up” the purple star. This has really been a fun quilt to make!
You described a good way to decide where to put each block; I agree that the center is the most important.
