I think the comment on the last post – you win some and you lose some – applies to this block. I’ve sewn a few circles in my life. They’re not the easiest thing, although that paper pieced dress still wins first place for the hardest block to make. Sewing in a circle on a 6″ block is an extra challenge though. It was bringing back memories of being 8-10 years old and sewing in sleeves on Barbie doll clothes. I was pretty young when I realized using Mom’s fabric scraps to make clothes for my dolls was a lot cheaper than spending my allowance on fabric. What isn’t evident here is I actually sewed over the rough spots a couple of times, trying to smooth them out. This is the best I had, folks!
I know I just showed this, but I’m posting an update with 70 blocks since – well, no good reason other than I just decided a while back to post a photo after I finished 10 more blocks.
I’ve been giving some thought to the sashing and perusing the way some other people have finished theirs. One that appeals to me is a 3 row sash, each 1″ wide – light, dark, light which totals a 3″ sash. Then the cornerstones are a 9 patch block with those 2 colors. It may end up being December before I actually start the sashes but I’d prefer to not wait until I have all 100 complete before I get that sewn on.
And in other news…I checked the SKU to make sure I bought the exact same red grunge fabric when I decided to add borders to the Star Wars quilts. Do these look identical to you? One looks a little darker than the other one to me. The good thing about the grunge fabric is that since it has patches of grey thrown in, it’s not nearly as obvious as if it were a true solid. I already had it cut and sewed and finally decided that since the sun was down, I’ll decide again in the morning if it passes muster or not before proceeding.
The good news is I have 3″, 3.5″ and 5″ strip dies so it’s really quick to increase the size of a quilt.
Dye lot differences. I agree with others though it will be fine disbursed throughout the quilt no one will ever notice and if they do you can honestly say you did it on purpose because if you choose to use both then it is on purpose. No one will ever question it.
That’s true. One of my favorite memories growing up was dyeing fabric to make things. It’s sure hard to match after the fact, even with notes about how much I used of each color.
I do think one is a little darker, but if you mix them….?

This is one of my favorite blocks you’ve made. I like the circle and the small stripes, it’s very patriotic! It’s good to wait for daylight to make color decisions, at least for me! But my guess is the colors will be fine, especially when dispersed throughout an entire quilt. Subtle differences can really enhance the quilt…or perhaps I am one of those people who can justify anything! LOL!

I agree one does look a little darker. Curve sewing can be a challenge!
I think that’s the smallest curve I’ve sewn in a while, at least for a full circle.
