I’ve been showing symptoms of an illness; I kept putting it off to do anything about it but the reality is I had to admit to myself on Friday that I couldn’t ignore it any longer. I’m in good health overall but there were clear signs that the diagnosis would be TSSF.
I’ve finished 72 of 73 blocks. Block 72 was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Friends, I have a case of The Splendid Sampler Fatigue. I’m 90% sure I’m not going to sew block 72 the way it was intended. We’re almost 3/4 through and I’m actually surprised it’s taken me this long. Maybe I should wait a few more days before deciding but right now I’m thinking…pass on that block.
For the record, I really enjoyed block # 73! The pattern is really designed for the 4 longer, thin pieces to be just a light contrast from the white but I liked the stark contrast like this.
In other news…Accuquilt has pretty regular sales. I’m getting close to finishing the Libs Elliott ” Just Like Heaven” quilt top. I should have a picture of it tomorrow but I’ll admit it now that sewing 144 6″ blocks turned out to be a little nuts. The way I add dies to my collection is when I need one, I buy that one. If I need more than one, I buy one and rotary cut the other one. I haven’t had to buy any dies in a while by slowing adding them that way. But this quilt made me realize that I could’ve been done if I’d had some larger dies. Currently the largest square or HST I have is 6″ finished but this one can cut a 12″ square because it’s so large. Fast forward to a good sale on the Accuquilt Studio 2. So….I made an investment in the future. My current dies work with it but I didn’t buy any new dies – I may have to put one or two on a Christmas list!

Sorry to hear about your TSSF! I think I might have contracted it long before now! I agree with Tierney, it’s good to take a break, put things away for awhile and then come back.
Haha! I wonder what % of people who started it are still doing it? I’m on the fence if I want to do Bonnie Hunter’s mystery quilt this year. I like the colors she’s picked so we’ll see.
If you were going to buy an Accuquilt cutter based upon the knowledge you now have, which one would you buy?
It’s a bit hefty on the price, but now that I know how much I use it….I would splurge for the Studio 2. It has the size and depth to be able to cut literally every die they sell, plus Sizzix dies, etc. I didn’t know anyone who had one, and honestly I had friends who said it seemed like a bit of a waste. But for me…I do use it almost nearly every single day that I sew. If you’re on the fence about getting one, then I would see if there are any used ones that might be a deal to see if you like it. I personally would say away from the Baby Go but I would recommend any of the other ones. The Go is larger than the baby and takes most of the dies. The Go Big is electric and there are a few more dies that it can handle that the Go can’t. Then the Studio 2 is their largest.
You are my block hero! Can’t believe how much you have completed so far. I think it is okay to take a break if you need if you have sampler fatigue!
Whew. I finally got it 90% done tonight – the block that I just absolutely wanted to not do. I need to buy and sew some buttons on it tomorrow and I’m done. Whew!
