Block 72 – Full Circle Star

img_20161028_135725.jpgSo….those points are all exactly the same size.  What you can’t see in this photo is how many times I pulled out stitches and sewed it again.  And again.  And again.  Folks, this is the best I had on this one!

The original pattern called for small circles appliqued on there, but what can I say?  I was tuckered out from those crazy points so I sewed on buttons instead!  I have to say, now that I have them on there…I kinda like them and think it probably turned out better than it would have if I had completely followed the instructions. I also altered the middle part – which is why I put off making this block because of that center piece – by adding a satin stitch to make it stand out a little bit.

20161028_140535.jpgI don’t know if anyone else journals.  I used a Franklin planner for years – probably a couple of decades or more.  Then everything went online and I used an app for a while but it just wasn’t the same.  I started using a paper planner again and I’m happy as a clam again because it’s just “me”.  I have a box of fine point pens but sometimes I want to throw this in my purse and go and the pens kept getting separated.  I searched pen holders for Leuchtturm1917 A5 notebooks and they were all ridiculously expensive for what they provided.  So I picked up some wide decorative elastic.  One buck and 5 minutes later and voila – I have a pen holder for my notebook on the go.

  1. That’s why I can’t do precision quilting like that! No matter how HARD I try, it never comes out perfect!! Too many depressing fails- so I gave up! 9 patches are just so much easier!!
    The buttons are genius!

    1. Nothing wrong with a 9-patch! Even those can be cut after they’re sewn together to make a disappearing 9-patch if you want to jazz it up a bit.

      1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of those. I’ll have to look it up!

        1. Here’s a link to one as an example. https://shredda77.wordpress.com/2012/02/23/disappearing-9-patch-tutorial/ . There’s also a disappearing 4-patch which is the same concept.

          1. Thanks. I’ll go see right now!

          2. Oh wow!! That’s pretty, and looks so hard!!
