I timed myself how long it took me to quilt a row and it was 13 and a half minutes. I could’ve actually finished quilting the first top tonight, but we needed to make a run to the grocery store. To say I’ve been quilting morning, noon, and night is a literal sentence – I’ve been getting up at 4:30am to get my regular morning walk in, then quilting over my lunch hour, and again every evening. My first quilt on the Avante should hopefully get the final row quilted and have the binding sewn on tomorrow. Then I’ll probably take a break to catch up on the Splendid Sampler blocks again.
That’s not much time spent; I quilted in my spare time last Thursday then was out of town for 3 days, and then Monday and Tuesday. I was anxious to find out that if I did need to finish a full sized quilt in a hurry using an edge-to-edge design how long would it take.
I went on my regular morning walk while I was out of town and had to wear a hoodie! Yikes! And I saw the craziest thing – frost on a car! I said to myself, “Toto, I don’t think we’re in Texas anymore!”
Our son got home from boy scouts last night and I was upstairs working on the quilt when he and my husband came in to visit me. “Mom, close your eyes and hold your hand out!” I told him I didn’t want to do that because I was pretty sure he had a frog in his hands. I was surprised to find out though that he had been awarded his star rank patch for scouts. He earned it about a month ago so he was ecstatic to receive it and I was so proud of him! Next up is life rank and then it will be a long haul to eagle scout. His eye is on the prize! I stopped what I was doing to get it sewn on for him so he’s ready to go.

Frost on the car…a regular happening here in Ohio! My husband is an Eagle Scout and I am happy to hear your son is working on his! You must be so proud of him as this is an accomplishment that serve him throughout his life! Let us know just how long it takes to quilt a quilt!
That’s great to hear about your husband! My brothers were both Eagle Scouts, and one of my nephews is also. They teach a lot of life lessons that I think serve them well throughout adulthood. Our daughter is a black belt in karate; it’s nice to have an accomplishment like that which takes years to achieve that you can take with you the rest of your life.
Not only are you a great quilter, you’re a great mom. Be proud of that young man, he deserves it! And go you, walking first thing, knowing how long it takes to quilt a line across, and breaking for the important stuff. You’ve got it together, charge on!
Thanks! Scouts has really done a lot to help him. He does well with goals that he can achieve at his own pace (which isn’t always the case with school, etc.).
