I’m bound and determined to use up as many of my small scraps as possible as we are nearing the end of the Splendid Sampler. I thought when I laid the fabrics out for this block that I had enough contrast between the navy and dark green as well as the white vs. light blue. There’s more contrast than this picture indicates but it’s still entirely too close and didn’t show the amount of contrast that it could have.
This one has Y seams so it was a little trickier than usual. I haven’t done one of those in a while because I try to avoid them! It wasn’t too bad though.
To circle back to my post from yesterday regarding the Bible sampler quilt….I didn’t name it – haha! If you’ve heard of the books for Farmer’s Wife sampler quilts, this book and corresponding quilt is from the same individual, Laurie Aaron Hird. She lays out 96 separate blocks and found blocks with names that correspond to different passages in the Bible. Her book includes the verse or verses that it relates to, pictures of the blocks as she pieced them together and then 3 settings for every block – a diagram if you want to plan out fabrics and so forth, a paper piecing pattern and also templates if you want to do traditional patchwork. I am definitely paper piecing these!
The book is now available through all sorts of retailers from Fons & Porter, Fat Quarter Shop, Amazon, and even directly from Laurie. I’ll be working these blocks in through February around the Splendid Sampler and En Provence as I have time, and then this quilt will become my focus in 2017 until it’s completed.
I completely understand your disappointment in the lack of contrast. I get really disappointed when that happens to me. My improv quilting mentor taught me to use my phones camera to preview my choices.

I don’t really mind Y seams, the secret is the pin at the point, I think. I too have a pile of tiny scraps that I am not yet willing to throw away…hope to use them up, but I think we are about due for another embroidery block.
Wow you called it – I’m sure you saw that yesterday was an embroidery block. Thankfully it’s an easier one as embroidery goes.

I need to finish that one although I saw Pat’s email that they’ve slowed down the schedule a bit so there’s some breathing room in there. That was a nice surprise!
I knew they had planned a break, but this longer than the original plan. It will be nice to have some extra time in here.
I knocked out most of the setting blocks today. I’ll be wrapping presents part of tomorrow so I think my sewing time is drawing to a close until next week.
