Kitty quilt started and finished

img_20161229_181114_953.jpgMy sister bought me a quilt kit for a Christmas gift. I realized yesterday I’ve never made a quilt from a kit. It can be intimidating – one wrong cut and I would have been in a world of hurt.  That fortunately didn’t happen!

I changed it one of the blocks that called for using a template that was in the booklet. It just didn’t appeal to me so I borrowed a pattern from the Splendid Sampler and made it into a 12″ block instead of 6″ and I was done with that.

I challenged myself to get it done in 2 days..just to say I did! It ended up taking 3 days start to finish from cutting, piecing, appliqué work on the kitty, then quilting and finally the binding.

img_0327When I was cutting the fabric I noticed what is seemingly a cute kitty quilt has some naughty words on 2 of the fabrics! Fortunately, it’s practically impossible to see in a photo but up close?  Yep, there they are!  I gave my sister an ample amount of good-natured grief over that! 😉

The kitty was one big panel, probably 60″ tall – the entire quilt is 72″ x 72″. I cut a gazillion pieces of heat ‘n bond and adhered them to the back with a seam allowance included before I did that. Then I trimmed it to the completed size and satin stitched it in black to make the kitty “pop” on the quilt.

That makes 14 completed quilts in 2016 plus an assortment of mini quilts, Christmas stockings, table runners, quilt guild name tags and assorted sundry items!

That is an amazing amount of productivity! And who would have thought such a sweet kitty could have a foul mouth…must be some bird that was a bad influence….a foul fowl maybe.😉 I’m looking forward to see what you do in 2017!

    1. Haha! I posted a picture of it on Instagram and a shop owner responded that she sells that kit and didn’t know that it had questionable words on it. I bought the Quilter’s Planner so hopefully that will help keep me on track for the coming year.

  3. I sure wish you would do something with your time and stops goofing off! Ha! But seriously you are my role model of finishing projects!

    1. Haha! I have a few things (not many fortunately) that I’ve never finished up. It’s always interesting to me how some things hold my interest from beginning to end and others…well, they’re almost a chore by then end of the project.

Nice job on getting so much accomplished!

    1. Thank you! I have done a little bit today but sadly spent time doing mundane things like cleaning up too.

  5. So what your saying is you have a ” bad kitty” quilt lol
    Sorry I had to lol

    1. Yes, yes I do! I should change it to that. I started calling it the “naughty kitty quilt” but “bad kitty quilt” will really make it interesting!
