feathers everywhere

20170406_111641I should start off with a non-quilted story.  We changed insurance a few weeks ago and – wow! That was not a seamless transition.  With exactly 0 days of medication left for our son, I got the call this morning that everything was set up.  I made phone calls to the doctor and the pharmacy, then picked up the actual paper with the prescription on it, then headed to the pharmacy.  I held my breath while they rang it up, not knowing how much this was going to cost.  Turns out, it was a little less than on our other insurance.  Yay!

20170406_111531In the meantime, I’ve been focusing on two projects. I just realized I don’t have any pictures of the first one so I’ll talk about that at another time.  The second one is quilting on the purple labyrinth quilt that I have named Feathers.    I was trying to decide how to quilt it and I’m doing these tiny pieces in 8 places with the micro quilting just because it’s fun.  I have seriously become infatuated with micro quilting!  I turn on the music, and the next thing I know it’s 2 hours later.  This quilt is mostly large pieces so There isn’t a lot of room for it but I had to sneak a little in.

20170406_111508The reason I named the quilt Feathers is because I thought at first I was going to quilt feathers in the white sections of the quilt but then I quilted some on the lighter purple.  I don’t know how much I have done because in spite of it being on a long arm, I started in the middle first since I knew what I wanted to do there.  There are actually feathers in a large portion of the quilt!  I finally moved out of the middle section today so I rolled it back up to the top.  It has 3 or 4 borders so I have a plan for each of those.

20170404_125234Someone had recommended this particular tape measure – I think it’s called a 0 center tape measure or something like that.  It has the pink sliders on it so that when you’re quilting, it helps keep the quilt straight.  It’s pretty easy to pull a quilt left or right so I took the advice of several people and looked up a video on YouTube called “loading Lori’s way“.  There’s lots of good stuff in there.  One helpful thing is this tape. Except the pink slides moved on me the first time I advanced the quilt – which was pretty much not helpful.  I have some painter’s tape in the room so I taped the markers down and it worked like a charm!

Oh!  And I won a door prize at quilt guild this week.  I just realized I forgot to take a picture of that but it’s always a good day when I win something free!

I have promised myself I’ll try feathers….you give me hope!!

    1. I always like the way they look after the quilt has been washed and dried. Plus part of my incentive is I always hear they’re hard to do so I saw it as a challenge to conquer!
