Outlander

20180125_135859.jpgI’m slowly making progress on another UFO from 2017.  This one was a mystery quilt called Outlander from Ebony Love. This is the middle section of the quilt; I think it’s 33″ x 33″ but don’t hold me to that.   This is the quilt that I bought two of at Christmas 2016; one for me and one for my sister.  She had commented sometime before then that she might be interested in making baby quilts for a pregnancy care center near where she lives, so I thought she might get the quilting bug.  Alas, she couldn’t figure out the sewing machine she was one – our grandmother’s featherweight – and was supposed to have someone take a look at it but I don’t think she ever did.

20180125_121608.jpgSo I finally decided I wasn’t going to press the issue and I’d go ahead and make mine. I think there are 9 different sets of blocks. It ends up being 99 x 99.  These are not colors that I would probably pick myself for a quilt which is part of the reason I like it because it forces me to stretch a little bit.  Doing some of the uncomfortable things is how we grow, right?

It came in 3 different colorways and I think she pretty much bought all the available fabric so I’m keeping a close eye to make sure I don’t make any cutting errors or otherwise I’m going to be in big trouble!

20180125_115913.jpgMy last bit of news for the week is I finished 4 charity quilts for our guild.  I like working on these because each one has a curveball and I have to figure out how to fix it on my own.  They’re all really good, but when a quilt goes on a long arm, that’s when every small detail shows up. I always feel like I accomplished something when I get through with each one because invariably I learn a lot!

Isn’t Ebony Love the lady who used to do a Downton Abbey mystery quilt? If she is, Outlander must be her new series.😄 Carole over at My Carolina Home does charity long arming too, and boy have I learned a lot about the importance of squaring!! How are classes this semester? So glad you are posting a bit!

    1. Yes, Ebony’s business is called Lovebug Studios. She’s done several mystery quilts, including Downtown Abbey and Outlander. I made the dean’s list last semester so hopefully I can keep that up this semester!
