I bought a panel the other day that included the front and back of a Christmas stock as well as several gift card rectangles. I’m not sure I’ll end up quilting the gift cards and use them. However, as we are working through a different Christmas get-together than we’ve ever had I asked my sister if we were just doing stockings for the kids or if I needed to have stockings for the 2 parents in our family.
She said Santa hadn’t put anything in her stocking for years. Awww…. We don’t actually put out stockings normally for the adults at my house but that made me sad. So when I saw this stocking I bought it on a whim to surprise her on Christmas morning.
It’s hard to see all the quilting unless you zoom in, but I did quite a bit on the front – outlining the tree and presents as well as the strips in the heel and near the goes. I quilted little balls on te tree and small swirls on the negative space. Then on the back I quilted out the words “Ho ho ho” over and over and used my rulers in several areas. I didn’t spend a day on it but it was probably an hour or more.
The front looks a lot better than the back which is important! I tried using one of the echo feet for the first time and it wasn’t perfect but it was at least progress in learning some long arm skills.
I sure didn’t want to get this 3/4ths done and not do the easy part of sewing it together so I promptly cut out the two sides and put the right sides together to sew. And….hey guess what? The panel includes the front of 2 separate Christmas stockings – and no back side! I had just quilted the front of two stockings but I suddenly had no game plan for the back. Hmmm… Well I didn’t spend a lot of time thinking about it – I had a plain red fat quarter of cheap fabric from JoAnn’s and sewed the quilted front to it and skipped quilting the back altogether. I made a holder out of the same fabric and sewed it to the corner and whew – done with that quick project!

Thank you! Our parents always filled ours up with oranges, pecans, etc. I may fill hers up with fruit and nuts this year also!
And now you have two! I think the quilting looks great! Long arms are a mystery to me, I’m sure they require a bit of techniques from the regular machine. Looks to me like you are progressing quickly with your control and detail. 🙂
I found out this afternoon that we’re having an extra guest in the house for the weekend so I think I know where the other stocking is going!
