more Splendid Sampler quilting

I am officially halfway finished with quilting the Splendid Sampler.  Needless to say, I haven’t been sewing at all.  I’ve been trying to come up with some different quilting designs in as many blocks as I can.  Just as I shut down tonight, I realized I haven’t even done some easy ones, like meandering circles.

I think my favorite from this evening was the swirls in the top right hand picture here.  It’s not perfect, nothing fancy but I like it because it just came to me and wasn’t something I saw in a book as a pattern.  For the most part, I have been spending just a few minutes analyzing each block as I come to it and deciding what I want to do on it.

My overall plan is to quilt the neutral areas to make the rest of the block pop.  I did try my hand at some “mini McTavishing” as I’m calling it – for instance on the house with the cloud overhead.  Not too much but then again it’s hard to overquilt a 6″ block.  I’ve been doing a lot of stitch in the ditch to outline any shapes.  Sometimes I get it right on the seam…and sometimes I don’t!

I have a friend who made a quilt for her newest baby.  She asked if I could help her finish it up.  We’re figuring out dates when she can come over to quilt it so that will be a lot of fun!

Your quilting is going to be great! I live the house and the block next to the house on your post the best! I’m glad you decided on custom quilting. I can live vicariously through you. Isn’t having a friend over great? Last weekend I had a friend over to quilt her quilt she started over 10 years ago!! She got it done!

    1. That’s awesome! Having friends who share the fun makes it double the fun!
