win some, lose some

20180207_122311.jpgI’m quilting away on the Amy Ellis sampler.  No hurry because I really have it planned as a summer quilt to go in the extra bedrooom. I’ve tried out several new techniques related to cropping inside vs. outside, stitching around the cropped areas vs. not. There are a number of mistakes on this quilt but that’s okay because I’m learning a lot through the process. I received the nicest note in the mail this week to thank me for quilting the black lap-sized quilt. Does anyone else keep thank you notes forever? I do! They’re such a great pick-me-up whenever I’ve had a less than stellar day.

20180207_122349.jpgSpeaking of less than perfect days, someone else was none too happy with me this week. The 3 rules when you have a complaint with someone is – is it truthful, is it necessary, and is it kind? There was some truth to what they had to say, although I also got knocked down for someone else’s mistake.  Was it necessary? Sure – feedback helps anyone figure out what they’re doing well, or what they aren’t doing well.  Was it kind?  Hmm…..not so much!  Fortunately, I asked a friend if I could just vent for a moment or two, and just having someone who let me talk for a couple of minutes without judging me or the other individual was such a blessing. It was still on my mind this morning so I opened up my devotional (I just knew the right words were going to appear) and the Psalm reading for the day was the 4th Psalm. The Lord hears when I call to him. How awesome is that!

  1. Those are great questions to ask: is it truthful, is it necessary, and is it kind? I am going to remember those! Sorry you had the experience and thanks for sharing those wise words to ask! Oh the quilt is looking great!

      Thanks Tierney!

  2. Yes, I keep all the thank you cards that are sent to me and other little bits of gratitude that I am bless with. They really help me when I am feeling a bit blue. As for the harsh words that were said to you, well… it’s a shame that they felt the need to share their misery with you. Chalk it up to it’s their opinion and it has nothing to do with you: Hurt people, hurt people. You have your own tribe here and we all think you are GREAT! BTW, that quilt is looking good! Those colors against the white are awesome!! I can’t wait to see the whole thing!
