Bloom block 6

I tend to sew the petals, or parts of the flower, stems, and leaves all in one sitting – which is what I did in this case.  Another reminder why sometimes it’s good to step back and take a look periodically.  I hope that one really long petal isn’t as obvious when this quilt is…

Starting something new

The son asked for a quilt.  I tried out a few ideas but mostly what I gave so far is a bunch of cut selvages.  You can always tell the difference between someone who buys pre-cuts vs. yardage if they have cut selvages in their pile.

I saw this somewhere on Instagram and just loved it!  My LQS didn’t have one so I asked where the original came from and ordered it for myself.

cancer

A woman posted on the Facebook page for the Pat Sloan quilt along that a friend of hers had just told her she had cancer, and this friend wanted to make a quilt for her out of the first block of the sampler.  She asked if anyone wanted to make a block to help out…

Wings – SS block 2

Looks can be deceiving.  This is a 6 inch block, part of the Pat Sloan mystery sampler quilt along.  If you break that down, there are 6 x 6 blocks within that.  In other words, the largest finished piece in here is just one inch square! This is block 2 and I did think for…

Bloom block 5

That right flower isn’t quite right.  It’s amazing how moving something just a thread or two will have it exactly perfect, or exactly wrong.  I don’t know if I tugged at it when I was sewing it down, but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Did I get the leaves too high?  I…

Hearts Aflutter – SS block 1

Block 1 of the splendid sampler is complete!  My friend Lisa asked if I wanted to do this quilt along with her – 50 weeks with 2 weeks off during the holidays. 2 blocks per week so a total of 100 blocks. Sure! Sounds like fun!  The blocks for the next year can be found…

solar system – complete!

I washed and dried it after I quilted it and ended up with the perfect amount of crinkliness.  She doesn’t know if she’s having a boy or girl so I went with a neutral yellow on the back that went with the sun theme.

organizing my fabric

This was such a mess.  I just needed to re-fold some fabrics and put the batiks all in one place.  I know some people have yards and yards and more yards of fabric stash. I like to buy fabric for a particular project, make that project and then move on. Yes, some fabric goes by…

Haley’s comet

I tested out a few different thread types before deciding on this sparkly yard to sew Haley’s comet onto the solar system quilt.

4 bloom blocks complete

Out of the various projects I’m working on, this one suits me best.  One block per week is just about right.  4 weeks into it and I’m keeping up so far.

more solar progress

4 rings are sewn on; I’m pinning the planets in place temporarily and will add them once all the rings are complete. I expected that the rings would break up the swirls in the fabric and create an illusion of the sky at night, and it looks like that’s starting to come out the way…
