I’m not finished with block 11 of the Splendid Sampler yet from Sunday – more on that at the end of the post. I had it pieced and thought I’d spend Monday evening and just whip out the hand stitching for both blocks. It didn’t really happen that way. But back to the Bloom block. This week is…

dual duty
Does anyone else use their dining room as their sewing room? I’ve heard it’s a pretty common setup; personally, we don’t use our dining room as much as we could for its original purpose. I have a couple of rooms upstairs that I could turn into a full-time sewing room but this suits me better…
Bloom Block 9
One little block, and yet it means that for a day or so, I am officially caught up on all my sewing projects. I have the behemoth quilting project ahead of me (king sized quilt) so I have plenty to keep me busy in the meantime but since that one is a surprise I won’t…
Bloom block x 8
I am slowly catching up this week. I finally got the sashing on the eighth block so I sewed it to 7 then sewed the second row to the top row. I should go ahead and cut and sew the top row of sashing that will attach at the very top, but I’m waiting to…
Bloom block # 8
It took me a week, I still don’t have the sashing on here but the hard part is done. This week’s block had the most pieces yet on a block which was part of the reason it took he longer. A very busy work week that had me working through lunch and late into the…
Turning the corner
I’m behind in last week’s sewing. I haven’t finished my Bloom block yet, and since it’s Sunday that means a new Splendid Sampler block came out. There are generally 2 schools of thought – start where you left off and catch up, or pick up with the rest of the group where they currently are…
Bloom block 7
I think this is my favorite Bloom block so far; I am working on a patchwork quilt and I might add this to the bottom corner of the quilt as a surprise!
Bloom block 5
That right flower isn’t quite right. It’s amazing how moving something just a thread or two will have it exactly perfect, or exactly wrong. I don’t know if I tugged at it when I was sewing it down, but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Did I get the leaves too high? I…
4 bloom blocks complete
Out of the various projects I’m working on, this one suits me best. One block per week is just about right. 4 weeks into it and I’m keeping up so far.
finished BIMB block # 3
My typical pattern for making these particular set of blocks is on day 1, I pull all the fabrics. I pull the fabrics for the flower or flowers, leaves, stem, but also the background and sashing. I iron as needed, and cut the background and sashing. Then I pull out my stash of Pellon and…
Bloom block 3
Lori does a great job of giving very detailed instructions to make the block look natural. To me, it doesn’t look obvious that she’s given very detailed instructions where each stem goes, how long each one is, where each and every single leaf goes, how far from the top and side the flower is, etc….
